Caravan Park Maleny

Unfortunately Maleny doesn't have a caravan park anymore (it is now an over 50"s resort) but there is power and water available at the showgrounds which is quite close to the main township.

The Maleny Agricultural Show was on at the showground when we arrived so we spent a couple of nights at the Ocean View Caravan Park, in quite an isolated spot on the side of a hill several klms out of town. The facilities were fine and management was helpful, but it didn't really suit us, so we moved into town to the Showgrounds.

The showgrounds are very close to town and you can follow the boardwalk trail around Obi Obi creek to walk into town to do your shopping, have a coffee or go to the pub for a bistro meal. (Look for the footbridge over the creek just passed the tennis courts at the showground).

As you drive in to the Maleny Showgrounds, keep to the left and pick out a camping site for yourself. There are 2 toilet blocks and one shower block.  There is also power and water available but you may need a long lead and hose to connect.

The caretaker will come around to collect fees which were $15 per night when we were there. Or you can put your fees in an envelope with your details and rego number, and post it through the flap in the door on the small building on top of the hill, next to the grandstand.

A 3 night maximum stay is allowed, but talk to the caretaker if you want to stay a bit longer ;) It's a great spot to explore the Sunshine Coast hinterland towns.

This area reminds us a lot of the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. There are many quaint little country villages dotted around the mountains, with lots to offer in the way of yummy chocolates houses (for Helen) and fabulous pie shops (for me). It is a very pretty area especially as we are being treated with the spectacular autumn colours  - not for long I suspect.

The views of the Glasshouse Mountains are also spectacular, and there is a great rainforest walk at Mary Caincross Reserve nearby. Maleny has an excellent information centre in the main street of town and the volunteer ladies are more than happy to help you out with any questions you may have.
